Under The Sea - A Personal Collection

My wife and I are both keen SCUBA divers. We completed the PADI Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Deep Diver (40m), Nitrox, and Diver Rescue courses between 2012 and 2013.

Most of our diving is land based. We are fortunate to be living in an area that hosts several great land based diving sites, all within a 15-20 minute drive from our home. Once we gear up we simply walk into the water and swim out, and down. As you can see in the gallery below there's a large selection of things to see and most of them are at a depth of between 4 and 12m.

We don't do a lot of night diving but when we do it is both a thoroughly exciting and anxious time - navigating in the dark, combined with low visibility, isn't easy. We're often asked "do you see anything?". You most certainly do. In fact, you'll often see things that you would never find during the day.

Diving with the Grey Nurse sharks, on the other hand, is a completely exhilarating experience. After a short boat trip from Nelson Bay to North Rock Gutters, Broughton Island, you jump off the boat and descend the anchor line to around 14-16m. For the next 45 minutes you sit at the bottom (or swim close-by) and observe these marvelous creatures as they cruise past you.
